According to Babolat, there are two types of players, which both consist of baseliners whose position on the court differs from each other. First Strikers position themselves mostly inside the court and play the ball on the rise, using the ball speed from their opponent. First Strikers use a precision frame type and include the likes of Ryan Harrison and Samantha Stosur. Punchers play behind the baseline, playing the ball at the top of the bounce and create their own power. Punchers use a racket to generate power and include the likes of Rafael Nadal and Li Na.

To this end, the new Babolat Pure Strike is a brand new racket for, you’ve guessed it, First Strikers. Defined by response and precision, it is ideal for those players who use every centimetre of the court to move their opponent and create open angles to win points. The 100 will suit players who prefer a bigger headsize and sweetspot in a lighter frame.

The Pure Strike utilises a Hybrid Frame Construction (a mix of square and elliptic), which offers more responsiveness at ball impact and is complemented by Stabilizer Technology of stiff carbon fibre for improved torsional stability at ball impact for precise shot-making. It also comes with X-Sider technology that promises to increase the sweetspot by 10% to bring forgiveness to off-centre hits and works with the Evo Beam, which consists of differing beam thicknesses, for less torque at ball impact and better responsiveness.

Energy return is also helped by the Response Woofer that utilises a new Pebax material, most-commonly used in the soleplates of sprinting spikes, injected into grommets and the bumber.
