Can you remember the first time you saw Novak Djokovic do his rubber man routine on the tennis court?

Stretchy doesn’t come close to describing the Serb’s suppleness – you could play a shot into the next court and he’d still inexplicably find a way to slide around the ball and return it with interest. That kind of athleticism doesn’t come easy; it’s the product of years of hard work, paying care and attention to his physical and mental wellbeing.

Novak’s attitude to sport is a primary reason for one of the most exciting new partnerships in the game: if you haven’t heard, Djokovic has signed up with ASICS. “Sound mind, sound body” is the strapline accompanying all the Japanese brand’s recent marketing, and it’s easy to see how that mantra fits with their new global ambassador. A dedicated practitioner of yoga and meditation, Djokovic is one of the healthiest – in every sense – athletes in world sport.

Where should such a high-class partnership be announced?

In an art gallery of course – the fortyfivedownstairs gallery in Melbourne, Australia, to be precise. Djokovic himself was leading proceedings, inviting guests to take on the “I Move Me” challenge, a reaction and footwork drill set up on stage to test players’ movement. Naturally we were first to volunteer, and Novak was so impressed with our skills that he agreed to sign a pair of his new ASICS shoes. Stay tuned to find out how you can get your hands on them, and in the meantime check out the GEL-Resolution 7 below.
