"QUEEN OF QUEENS"

Pro:Direct Tennis was in Queens with Nike to celebrate Serena Williams’ return to New York City with the Nike x Virgil Abloh for Serena Williams “Queen” Collection at the iconic West Side Tennis Club in Forest Hills.

Serena – the “Queen” – is tied for the most ever (6) wins in Queens during the Open era. Young tennis “Queens” from boroughs across New York City were offered a rare opportunity to meet Serena and play tennis on the grounds that hosted 60 editions of the U.S. National Championships (it was renamed the US Open Tennis Championships in 1968).

The Nike x Virgil Abloh “Queen” Collection was on display at the event in an installation dubbed the “Queens Garden” and brings together two transcendent figures – Serena Williams and Virgil Abloh – who find common ground in pushing boundaries and inspiring youth.

Championed by the Nike x Virgil Abloh for Serena Williams “Queen” dress and jacket, this stylish collaboration finds inspiration in Serena’s love of dance and ballet as well as Abloh’s subversive take on the style of tennis itself. The collection celebrates Nike’s future-forward design, championing ambitious products that harness the brand’s unwavering commitment to redefining performance and style.

Virgil Abloh is an American fashion designer who has been the Artistic Director of Louis Vuitton's menswear collection since March 2018. Apart from his work at Louis Vuitton, Abloh serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Milan-based label Off-White, a fashion house he founded in 2013.

Born in Rockford, Illinois to Ghanaian parents, he graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 2002 and the Illinois Institute of Technology in 2006 with degrees in civil engineering and architecture, respectively. He entered the world of fashion with an internship at Fendi in 2009 alongside rapper Kanye West. The two began an artistic collaboration that would launch Abloh's career into founding Off-White. Time magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2018.
